GEB Consultancy was founded by Peter Paap, who has over 20 years of experience in development work in various parts of the world. He has worked as Waste Management Expert in Singapore, Social Forestry Advisor in Guinea Conakry, Capacity Building Portfolio Manager for the West- and Central African region in Senegal, trainer/consultant on institutional development and organisational strengthening in the Netherlands, Senior Forestry Advisor, Cross-cutting capacity building expert and Climate Smart Agriculture Portfolio Manager.
Peter has elaborated project and programme proposals for many initiatives, among which: the UNDP West Africa Shorline Programme, NCSA final reports for Sao Tome & Principe, Guinea Conakry, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, follow up projects on environmental capacity building in Togo and Cote d’Ivoire, a land degradation project in Central African Republic, etc. He has been team leader on development of proposals for large multilateral financing mechanisms, like the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund. The latter took him to places on other continents, like Samoa and Haiti. Recently, he has branched out towards project evaluation, doing a terminal evaluation for UNDP Suriname. Also, Peter has conducted trainings/workshops on capacity building, adaptation to climate change and institutional development and organisational strengthening. As such, he’s an allrounder in the field of environmental management.
During his work in Africa, Peter has built an extensive network of contacts within UN organisations and countries in West- and Central Africa. He has also initiated a collaboration of a pool of international and regional consultants intervening in the area of global environmental management, such as pursued by the Global Environment Facility. Most of these consultants have ample experience with programme development, management, monitoring and evaluation for the various international conventions managed by the GEF, such as the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN Convention on the Combat of Desertification/Land Degradation an the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
